Group Teamwork

“Of all the things I’ve done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal.” – Walt Disney.

Our group had considerable work to do from the onset, but changing the scope of our project to MagicBand created additional workload.  After hours of brainstorming, it was challenging to reach consensus on our goal.  We were the only group with five members, one less than the other two teams – so there was also less ability to divide and conquer.  One day in when we gathering survey responses – I experienced some heat exhaustion.  I was feeling miserable, but I tried to power through it.  When the team realized it, they insisted that I focus on my health.  They escorted me to a restaurant with AC and made sure I was hydrated before heading back to the hotel to recover.  This was yet another setback.

“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible” – Walt Disney.

We were able to get the project done with a lot of team sacrifice.  After our presentation, I was exhausted.  I fell asleep at the hotel, and missed our farewell dinner.  Waking up, I texted our group to get their location.  Rasul responded “Chris – We’re swinging by to get you!!”  It touched me that they would go out of their way to interrupt their final celebrations to pick me up.  I sat outside waiting for a cab to show up. Surprisingly, a limo with the entire class arrived to pick me instead. Words can’t express my appreciation, not the joy I experienced at that moment.  Everyone said my facial expression was priceless, but I’d say the experience itself was.  Teamwork is a requirement in any MBA program– but this class has gone above and beyond extending past just the coursework itself. it’s been an absolute honor being part of this class which has set such a high bar.
